LEARNING TO READ THE FOOD LABELS

You may find information about salt content in a serving of food in the area of the food label below. Take note of the following:

A. The amount of salt in each serving is indicated on the food label.

B. Ignore the daily value percentage and concentrate on the mg of salt per serving.

Another thing you may have seen is the "Low sodium" or "No sodium" labels on some products. A serving of food is considered low sodium if it contains 140 mg or less of sodium. No sodium denotes that a serving of food contains less than 5 mg of sodium.
