WHAT CONTRIBUTES TO ALCOHOL USE DISORDER?
Scientists are still attempting to figure out what causes alcoholism. It appears to combine at least some of the following:
- Early childhood experiences.
- Genetics (DNA)
- Methods to reduce emotional pain
If a person has the following characteristics, he or she is more prone to develop an alcohol use disorder:
- Traumatised by incidents of physical or sexual abuse.
- Consume alcohol frequently, in huge quantities, or begin early in life
- Family history of alcoholism
- Have undergone a stomach bypass (Roux-en-y) procedure due to weight problems
- Have challenges with your mental health, such as grieving, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, depression, and eating disorders
